Active and Passive Voice Miscellaneous Exercise Question with Answers(given at the end of each exercise):-


Exercise 1 (Easy)
Sentences are given in the active voice. Change them into the passive voice.

1. He teaches English.
2. The child is eating bananas.
3. She is writing a letter.
4. The master punished the servant.
5. He was writing a book.
6. Who wrote this letter?
7. Somebody cooks meal every day.
8. He wore a blue shirt.
9. May God bless you with happiness!
10. They are building a house.
11. I have finished the job.
12. I sent the report yesterday.
13. She bought a diamond necklace.
14. Somebody had stolen my purse.

Answers:-
1. English is taught by him.
2. Bananas are being eaten by the child.
3. A letter is being written by her.
4. The servant was punished by the master.
5. A book was being written by him.
6. By whom was this letter written?
7. Meal is cooked by someone every day.
8. A blue shirt was worn by him.

10. A house is being built by them.
11. The job has been finished by me.
12. The report was sent yesterday.

Exercise II (Easy)
Change the voice in the following sentences:-
1. I will never forget this experience.
2. Mother made a cake yesterday.
3. The girl was teased by the boy.
4. The deer was being chased by the tiger.
5. The police have caught the thief.
6. Was her duty done by her?
7. She has learned her lessons.
8. A novel has been written by her.
9. Have you finished the report?
10. Scientists have discovered traces of ice on the surface.

Answers:- 
1. This experience will never be forgotten by me.
2. A cake was made by my mother yesterday.
3. The boy teased the girl.
4. The tiger was chasing the deer.
5. The thief has been caught by the police.
6. Did she do her duty?
7. Her lessons have been learned by her.
8. She has written a novel.
9. Has the report been finished by you?
10. Traces of ice have been discovered on the surface of Mars (by scientists)

Exercise III (Intermediate Level)
Change from Active to Passive voice:-
1. Rose smells sweet. 
2. I heard him open the door. 
3. Sit down. 
4. Women like men to flatter them. 
5. He made me work.
6. One must do one’s duty. 
7. Your shoes need polishing. 
8. Prepare yourself for the examination. 
9. It is your duty to do this work. 
10. I hope to win.
11. Mohan decided to contest the election.
12. He does not like people laughing at him.   

Answers:-
1. Rose is sweet when smelled.
2. He was heard to open the door.
3. Be seated.
4. Women like to be flattered by men.
5. I was made to work.
6. Duty must be done.
7. Your shoes need to be polished.
8. Be prepared for the examination.
9. You are supposed to do this work.
10. It is hoped that I shall win.
11. It was decided to by Mohan to contest the election.
12. He does not like being laughed at.

Exercise IV (Advanced level)
Change the following sentences into passive voice:
1. Do not insult your elders.
2. Give me some water.
3. Write down your address.
4. Leave the room at once.
5. Let me make a coloured ribbon for your hair.
6. Drive the bull out of the garden.
7. Please help me in this matter.
8. Brush your teeth daily.
9. Paint a picture.
10. Let them play the match.

1. You are advised not to insult your elders.
2. Let some water be given to me.
3. Let your address be written down.
4. You are ordered to leave the room at once.
5. Let a coloured ribbon be made for your hair by me.
