Q1. Describe the dangers and difficulties of the night when Pi was stranded on a raft at sea .
Ans : Pi had to face innumerable difficulties and dangers while he was stranded on a raft at sea. The night was stormy and the continuous rain coupled with the wild waves of the sea left no part of his body dry. The sea tossed about his raft violently while Pi tried to deal with exhaustion and the fear of getting attacked by Richard Parker.
Q2. Which thought occupied Pi's mind throughout his struggles?
Ans: The one thought that occupied Pi’s mind throughout his struggles was that of Richard Parker and the ways by which he could get rid of him and take over the boat.
Q3. What was plan number one and why did Pi reject it?
Ans: Pi’s plan number one was to push Richard Parker off the lifeboat. He rejected the plan when he recalled that the tigers of the Sundarbans are known to be accomplished swimmers. He realizes that if Richard Parker found himself in the choppy waters , he would merely swim back to the boat, get aboard and kill Pi. Hence plan number one was useless.
Q4. Why was plan number three ridiculous?
Ans: Pi’s plan number three was to attack Richard Parker with all the available weaponry. He realized that it was a ridiculous ides because he was just a weak and frail vegetarian in comparison to the immense beast. Attacking a tiger with a rocket flare, a hatchet, a knife or needles would be of no use. At the most he would be able to nick Richard Parker. And if he managed to do so, the tiger would surely get angry and tear him apart limb by limb.
Q5. Why did Pi feel that plan number four was clever?
Ans: Pi’s plan number four was to choke Richard Parker. He figured that if he could get the noose to go around Richard Parker’s neck, he could pull on the rope when the tiger tried to reach for him. In doing so he would successfully kill the tiger before it reached him. This, he felt, was indeed a very clever idea as he would be able to trick the tiger into killing itself without making any direct attack.
Q6. Plan number five reveals Pi's desperation. Would you agree? If so, then why?
Ans: Plan number five was to poison Richard Parker or to set him on fire. However, Pi was unable to come up with any way by which he could accomplish either of these things. His desperation is revealed when he continues to think of plans to kill Richard Parker even though he knows that he does not have the appropriate equipment to accomplish such a feat
